Jiyuan City Henan Province 30 Years of Aerial Planting Afforestation Area of 800,000 Mu

In Jiyuan, Henan province, where the mountainous and hilly area accounts for more than 80% of the total area, afforestation has always been an important work, and afforestation by aerial seeding is particularly important for afforestation in deep mountainous areas. From fixed-wing aircraft to helicopters to drone, the aerial planting area in Jiyuan has reached more than 800,000 mu in the past 30 years, which has played an important role in continuously expanding ecological space and improving ecological carrying capacity in the Taihang Mountain area and along the Yellow River.

Wang Ruijing, chief of afforestation division of Forestry Bureau of Jiyuan Production city integration demonstration area in Henan Province, said that afforestation by air is full of praise. In recent days, in the Fenghuangtai area of Taihang Mountain in the south of Jiyuan, a drone filled with various kinds of tree seeds has been rapidly carrying out afforestation operations. Drone aerial seeding afforestation has the characteristics of low take-off and landing technology requirements, precise seed seeding and high efficiency.


Dong Zhenpeng, station worker of drone, said: "The drone seeding is usually at a level up to 100 meters higher than the height of a mountain. It can basically achieve accurate seeding."

The drone will be planted in the Fenghuangtai aerial planting area in Jiyuan, Taihang Mountain area, covering an area of 15,000 mu. Li Jiangong, of the Forestry Research and Planning Institute of Henan Province, told reporters: "The use of drone has reduced both human and material resources and financial costs."


Wang Ruijing, chief of afforestation department of Forestry Bureau of Jiyuan Industry Integration Demonstration Area, said that Jiyuan first used fixed-wing aircraft for aerial seeding in 1984, and helicopter aerial seeding in 2014, and drones for precise seeding today. Over the past 30 years, afforestation by air has opened up a new way for afforestation in Jiyuan, and afforestation has entered a rapid development stage. "From 1984 to now, more than 800,000 mu of land has been planted by aerial seeding, and more than 200,000 mu has been planted. Through these years of afforestation, it has played an important role in the ecological construction of Jiyuan. There is no doubt that the increase of forest coverage in Jiyuan is closely related to the afforestation by aerial seeding, which has brought us some economic and social benefits, including ecological benefits."


Wang Ruijing further introduced to reporters that Jiyuan is located in the "Forest Henan" plan along the yellow ecological conservation bag and taihang mountain ecological barrier area, the importance of afforestation work is self-evident. "In particular, afforestation along both sides of the Yellow River has played a very important role in the ecology of both sides of the Yellow River through so many years of aerial seeding. Our successful forest is very obvious for the conservation of soil and water, water conservation, the protection of ecological security and biodiversity on both sides of the Yellow River."
