According to reports, the evening performance was hosted by the Sha Tin District Committee of the National Education to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. It also kicked off the 10th anniversary of the Sha Tin District Committee for National Education and the 8th Sha Tin Festival.
Wu Shouji, Chairman of the 2018 Sha Tin Festival Committee, said in an interview that the "light show" took about four months from design, approval to performance. It is hoped that it will bring different performances to the people of Hong Kong to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the return of Hong Kong. He also said that in the 21 years since the reunification, the Hong Kong SAR economy has developed rapidly. It is hoped that Hong Kong will become better and better in the future.
It is understood that the drones of this show are under the responsibility of EHang Egret Media Technology Co., Ltd. from Guangzhou. The computer software is used to design the flight path, one person can control 100 drones.
The company’s chairman, Shi Zheyuan, told reporters that although they had previously performed thousands of light shows of drones on the mainland, the significance of this performance was not only the first time in Hong Kong, but also because of his special feelings for Hong Kong. On July 1, 1997, he participated in the Hong Kong Reunification Celebration as a ceremonial soldier. In 2007, he was responsible for security at the scene of the 10th anniversary celebration of Hong Kong's return. Shi Zheyuan said that Hong Kong can be said to be China's most international city. He hopes to bring the most advanced technology to Hong Kong and show China's new technology culture to the world through this platform.
