The Era of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles in China is Coming

In recent years, with the maturity of UAV technology, the application of UAV has been extended to many fields such as environmental protection. So, what is the level of UAV technology and industry in China? What is the international position? What are the comparative advantages? On May 10, the reporter of "Environment and Life" interviewed Secretary-General Wang Shoujie of China UAV Industry Innovation Alliance with these questions.
_As UAVs are playing a prominent role in more and more fields of application, UAVs have become a high-tech hot word of great concern to the media and the public. Last June, Time magazine even exclaimed, "The era of UAVs is coming, and China is the dominant force."
_At that time, Time magazine published a series of cover stories with the theme of UAV Age, pointing out that UAV, a major technology, was probably going through a key turning point in its development, that is, from the vision stage to the large-scale practical stage, becoming a part of the daily life of the public. "At present, China is the dominant presence in the field of UAVs, and Shenzhen Dajiang Company even holds 72% of the global market," Time said.

_China and the United States have their own strengths in UAVs
In response to the American media, Secretary-General Wang Shoujie explained with a smile: "The overall level of UAV can be seen from two aspects of manufacturing and application. Generally speaking, the manufacturing and application of UAVs in China are at the advanced level in the world. However, the United States is still the most advanced manufacturer of high-end unmanned aerial vehicles in the world. China ranks second and is still trying to catch up with the United States. Of course, in terms of application, China and the United States have their own strengths. For example, the United States has a better application in security (paramilitary products) and military, while we have a better application in agriculture, forestry and plant protection. In addition, the United States is concerned about the leakage of sophisticated technology and strictly restricts the export of domestic UAVs. On the contrary, the number of UAVs exported by China is in the leading position in the world. At the level of consumer entertainment application, China's brand of Xinjiang UAV does have a competitive advantage in the market.
_Then, what are the shortcomings of our UAV? Secretary-General Wang said: "First, the concept of UAV is backward, innovation is insufficient, and there are few original development concepts; secondly, technology is backward. In the aspect of high-end UAV, there are still many gaps between us and the United States, mainly reflected in two aspects: first, the development of large UAV with a long history; second, the development of micro-and nano-scale Ultra-small UAV; micron-scale UAV refers to the wingspan size of 3. Under 00mm, nano-scale means that the wingspan size is at the level of more than 10mm. Ultra-small UAVs can not only conceal reconnaissance, but also surprisingly attack the enemy.
_Then, how can China's UAVs develop and occupy the global commanding heights in the future? Secretary-General Wang said: "We should make efforts in three aspects. The first is to innovate ideas. At present, the design, manufacture and use of unmanned aerial vehicles in our country have not got rid of the trap of manned aerial vehicles, basically replaced by manned aerial vehicles. But unmanned aerial vehicles are actually new concept aircraft. Our thinking and concept of designing and applying unmanned aerial vehicles must be changed. The second aspect is that technology needs innovation. We need to improve the following four aspects of the technology urgently: first, the power of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) energy, and make great efforts to develop high-performance UAV engine and improve the specific energy of fuel cells and energy storage batteries (specific energy refers to the energy provided by devices per unit mass/volume); second, to improve the level of navigation equipment; third, to improve the UAV load technology, especially photoelectric load basic components. The fourth is high precision processing technology and technology. The third aspect is industry application innovation. At present, industry application is only a simple substitution of traditional machinery and manpower. It belongs to very shallow application. To truly exert the capability of UAV, first of all, we need to clarify the use needs of the industry, and then systematize the design and construction according to the characteristics of the industry.
Wang Shoujie, Secretary-General of China UAV Industry Innovation Alliance
_Unmanned Aerial Vehicle will become the main force in future air combat
_Then, how do you think of the American media saying that "the era of UAV is coming"? Wang Shoujie said: "The idea of UAV era was first put forward by Americans, but it did not elaborate on its connotation. In my opinion, the connotation of the UAV era should be that it is the main production tool of human beings, while the industry has strong universality and can enter all aspects of production and life.
Then, Wang Shoujie elaborated on his understanding that the UAV era is all-round and all-round, with all the characteristics of rewriting an era. It is mainly reflected in the following three aspects: military aspect, unmanned aerial vehicle will become the leading role in future air combat, and it will be ubiquitous; economic aspect, unmanned aerial vehicle will enter all walks of life, such as unmanned aerial vehicle has been widely used in police security, agriculture, forestry, plant protection, land survey, health and environmental protection, pipeline inspection, and will also enter the production and manufacturing industry, construction industry, social and family clothing. Business, etc., will cover all aspects of the tertiary industry; in society, UAVs will become friends and partners of mankind, and have entered the family as toys and aerial photo artifacts. In the future, we can continuously monitor indoors and outdoors, help us clean inaccessible ceilings, smokestacks, glass of tall buildings, etc., and also can carry out a variety of UAV sports, unmanned. The machine will enter thousands of households, into all aspects of people's social life.

At present, UAVs are just flying.
