Secretive startup takes Joby Aviations on step closer to air taxi
The secretive start up known as Joby Aviations is getting one step closer to introducing a flying taxi, as it publicized today the $100 million it gathered by notable investors including the groups led by reputed companies like Toyota, Intel and JetBlue.
The company proclaimed that the money being invested in this future vehicle will help in the establishment of the company’s air taxi prototype.
As per reports by the Bloomberg, Joby has been administering test flights already, at their classified airfield in Northern California.
After the mega drone is produced, it is affirmed to reach the speeds of 200mph (321kph) motorized by lithium nickel cobalt manganese oxide batteries. The company’s prototype has 16 electric propellers mounted, out of which 12 are made to facilitate vertical take-off and landing which means the air taxi can function without a runway.
The air taxi is reported to execute like a blend between a drone and a small plane.
The vehicle, despite its imaginative look is being made exclusively for routine use of flying on vacation, commuting to work or for running everyday tasks.
