On May 16, in Wenchong Village of Guiping City, a 4-wing rotor UAV was remotely operated by transmission inspection technicians of Guigang Guiping Power Supply Bureau of Southern China Power Grid to inspect the fault of 35 kilovolt south slope line.
At 13:00 on May 16, just lunch time, the transmission inspection and shift dispatching center of the Bureau notified that 35 kilovolt south slope line fault tripped, and fault inspection should be carried out immediately. The transmission crew quickly assembled, divided into two groups of all-line special patrol to troubleshoot, and two UAV patrol teams were dispatched at the same time. Most of the 35 kilovolt south slope line passes through the mountainous area, and the transmission line is long and complex. Traditional fault inspection is mainly carried out by means of pole climbing inspection and ground telescope observation, which consumes a lot of manpower, material resources and time. With the application of UAV patrol technology, the staff can inspect and record the transmission line through the high-definition camera on UAV, and easily analyze and process the image data to judge the operation of the line and improve the patrol efficiency.
According to the lightning system, the fault point is within the range of tower 48 to 55. After the UAV operator carefully surveyed the site and identified the main dangerous points on the site, he organized a base-By-base inspection in the 48 poles and towers. After debugging the UAV, two operators control the UAV to conduct a base-By-base investigation on the pole and tower. The UAV's blade has room to shuttle between the insulator and the conductor of the pole and tower, and transmit clear video and pictures to the ground for transmission and inspection personnel to analyze. After 1 hour inspection, UAV finds out the line fault point accurately - the A phase insulator of pole 50 on 35 KV south slope line has obvious discharge trace, which is judged to be the fault tripping caused by lightning.
