Typhoon Lanka, the 16th typhoon of the year, makes landfall off the coast of Qionghai city, south China's Hainan province, Oct. 13, 2018. Aiming at the generation and development of "langka", a scientific experiment of multiple platforms in the sea, air and sky to observe typhoon was successfully carried out on December 14 in the central and northern part of the south China sea (near Qionghai). Satellites, aircraft, unmanned craft and wind-chasing observation vehicles all went into action during the test, and a large number of precious data were obtained, which proved the feasibility of the scientific test of multi-platform coordinated observation of typhoons. This is a typhoon scientific experiment with the largest scale and the most observation equipment in China.

It is reported that China has long lacked a direct observation platform suitable for the severe typhoon environment, and the lack of fine structure observation data of the typhoon core has become one of the bottlenecks restricting the development of typhoon forecasting ability in China. This experiment uses several observation platforms to observe "Langka", which effectively solves the problem of insufficient observation data.

In this test, three aircraft (one with man-machine and two drones) were organized to observe the front structure inside the typhoon at the same time before the landing of the typhoon "Langka", and the high-resolution meteorological data of different levels, regions and stages during the landing process of the typhoon were successfully obtained. Airborne lidar is used to observe the high-resolution wind field structure in the front circulation of a typhoon at sea. The typhoon "second sounding" was successfully carried out by the wind-chasing observation vehicle (after the balloon reached a certain height and burst, the small parachute ejected and carried the observation equipment to form the second sounding during the falling period). During the typhoon landing on February 13, the structure of typhoon circulation and atmospheric physical characteristics were changed in continuous release rocket sounding and ozone sounding. In view of the rainstorm process after typhoon landing, we organized drone to carry out the test of dual-aircraft direct detection combined with sounding down on 14th. During the experiment, Fengyun-4 satellite and Gaofen-series satellite continuously observed the typhoon area, and the unmanned craft successfully acquired complete observation data of wind temperature, pressure, humidity and seawater temperature and salinity at the offshore sea-air interface before and after the typhoon
