Orion is one of the most abundant and dense constellations of bright stars in the sky. And because it's so bright, some drones are scrambling to name it after it. For example, a long-range flying drone developed by Aurora Flight Sciences, also known as Orion, is, at least for now, much dimmer than Russia's Orion.

In April this year, The Russian Army Aviation service received the first batch of three Orion unmanned aerial vehicles. The russian-built Orion will have a normal aerodynamic configuration with high-aspect ratio wings, V-shaped tail fins and propulsion propellers. It will have an electro-optical pod in front of the nose, with a maximum takeoff weight of about 1,200kg and a endurance of 24 hours.

It was originally positioned as a reconnaissance drone , but was later adapted to the actual combat needs of the Russian army as a reconnaissance drone. In the development and use of reconnaissance uav, Russia has rich experience, such as "aileron -3SB", "Pomegranate", "sea Vulture -10", "Outpost -M" and other types of drone . As a result, Orion is good at aerial reconnaissance. The onboard photoelectric detection system can operate normally in weather conditions with low visibility, such as wind, snow, rain and haze. It is said that other sensors, such as electronic intelligence system and radar, can be used to further enhance the reconnaissance capability.

Air strikes are Orion's new expertise. Previously, the Russian military had some drones that could carry out air strike missions, such as outposts M and Korsar, but they were mostly "part-time" and the ammunition used was mostly small ammunition.
