In recent years, Gansu Province has carried out a series of experimental research projects on artificial precipitation (snow) in the Qilian Mountains. The experimental results show that the Qilian Mountains, located in the northern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, are rich in cloud water resources, with an average annual water vapor input of 88.54 billion cubic meters. However, under natural conditions, the proportion of water resources converted into precipitation in the air is less than 15%. If artificial precipitation (snow) is implemented in the Qilian Mountains, the annual precipitation can be increased by 15% at most theoretically, and the development potential of cloud water resources is relatively objective. It is estimated that when artificial precipitation (snow) increases by 10% in Qilian Mountains, the comprehensive benefit of Hexi Region can be increased by 5.3%. When the rainfall increase (snow) increases by 20%, the comprehensive benefit of each basin in Hexi Corridor increases by 12.5%.

In the next step, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and the government of Gansu Province will further strengthen cooperation and include a comprehensive application system of large-scale unmanned aerial vehicle weather modification into the 14th Five-Year Weather Modification Development Plan.
