Agricultural Drones’ Current Status in China

On the advantages of the aviation equipment for spraying pesticide and the wide land area, complex terrain and diversified planting patterns in China, the use of drones is more in line with China's current national conditions, thus wher the potential value of promotion and use.

Development of foreign aviation drug delivery technology: Initially, Germany proposed the use of aircraft to spray pesticides to control forest pests and diseases. The United States is the world's most developed agricultural aviation technology, with advanced aviation plant protection machinery and a sound agricultural aviation organization system.Japan first used unmanned helicopters for agricultural production. After years of development, Japan has become one of the most developed countries in the field.

Development of domestic aviation drug delivery technology
China's aviation drug delivery started relatively late, which can be dated back to the early 1950s.

In the past 10 years, low-altitude low-volume agricultural drones have developed rapidly. According to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture, up to May 2016, there are 178 kinds of agricultural drones in use in the country, which can be applied to different drug delivery conditions. The spraying operation efficiency is as high as 6 hm2/h, which can effectively prevent crop pests and diseases in a timely and effective manner.

At present, the agricultural and forestry aviation operations are accumulated to 33 158 h, mainly used in the main grain producing areas such as Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and Henan, but less than 3% of the total planting operation area.

As of 2016, there are more than 200 UAV production and sales companies in China, and more than 160 agricultural UAVs have been put into the market to carry out pest control work on crops such as rice, wheat, corn, cotton and forest. The actual results prove that the aerial drug delivery of drones meets the requirements of practical drug delivery and is in a stage of rapid development.
